[Oct. 27, 2026 - Tiffin, OH] - The Tiffin City Schools Board of Education acknowledged the first reading of updated district policies during its Oct. 26 meeting. The drafts are available for public review, and the board will continue reviewing them and may make changes before considering final adoption.
The board's Policy and Governance Committee, Victor Perez and Dr. Meagan McBride, has worked closely with Superintendent Greg Williamson and NEOLA over the past several months to update the policies. Kelly Spahr and other district staff also contributed to the review.
Board member Dr. Joanna Beres noted that the first reading gives families, staff and community members an opportunity to review the proposed policies and share feedback.
The draft policies, posted with item 7.1 of the Oct. 26 meeting agenda, cover bylaws, administration, program, professional staff, classified staff, students, finances, property, operations and relations. Comments may be emailed to jimmy_flint@tiffincityschools.org.
Auditorium improvements
The board voted 5-0 to authorize district officials to finalize a contract of up to $549,420 with Energy Optimizers, USA for Phase I lighting and electrical improvements at the Columbian High School auditorium.
Williamson said summer 2027 construction will accommodate the spring musical and other school-year events. The district has $250,000 in contributions from Mercy Health - Tiffin Hospital and is seeking additional private donations and grants for the improvements.
A potential Phase II would address asbestos abatement, about 750 replacement seats, flooring, ceilings and painting. Its roughly $1 million planning estimate is based on older pricing and needs to be updated.
Superintendent goals
The board has given Williamson high-level goals focused on increasing student attendance, improving district communication and developing long-term permanent improvement plans. Work on each priority is underway.
Board member Larry Kisabeth said the goals provide clear direction, while Beres emphasized measurable expectations and ongoing feedback. Williamson welcomed the board's guidance and regular progress reviews.
Other business
The board approved consulting agreements to support training in special education requirements and treasurer's office responsibilities, along with an agreement for school psychologist services.
In his report, Williamson recognized Columbian science teacher Chris Monsour's national teaching honors, senior Angela Liu's National Merit recognition and achievements in fall athletics. He also highlighted 55 Lincoln Pre-K students who had perfect attendance in September.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Nov. 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Tiffin Middle School Cafetorium.
